For a Homelite Super 2 chain saw, two different types of oils are required: one for the engine and one for the chain. If oil specifications are neglected, the saw can malfunction.Engine Oil Homelite chain saws are equipped with two-stroke engines.
Homelite produces its own brand of two-stroke engine oil that should be used for best results. If Homelite oil is not available, use other good quality two-stroke engine oil, but consider adding an anti-oxidant fuel stabilizer to the fuel to prolong the freshness of the mix -- Homelite oils come with a fuel stabilizer already mixed in. Fuel Mix Engine oil should be mixed with gasoline at a specified ratio before fueling the machine. When refueling with Homelite oil, mix oil with unleaded gasoline at a ratio specified on the container. For other two-stroke engine oils, Homelite recommends mixing one part oil with 16 parts gas. Pay close attention the mixture, because not enough oil can cause the engine to overheat, while excess oil can slow down the chain saw. Mix in a clean, gasoline-safe container to assure the fuel is well mixed before pouring it into the engine. Neglecting to mix thoroughly can feed either too much gasoline or oil at once to the engine, which can cause malfunctions. Also, as gas and oil naturally separate, avoid mixing large amounts of fuel at once. Chain Lubrication The Super 2 chain needs to stay lubricated to work optimally. The ideal oil for a Super 2 chain is Homelite Bar and Chain Oil. Clean SAE 30 oil can also be used to lubricate the chain, according to Homelite.
